I can’t explain what prompted me to seek out Gordon Chalmers, 33 years after last being in his presence at McAteer, so learning we lost him in 2018 was all the more sad. Gordon brought us to Washington DC for a week of studies through CloseUp Foundation. As things worked out I ended up a living here, working in the government, and pretty much a political wonk. Thank you Gordon for the inspiration to be curious and to strive to make a difference. God speed.
Swift travels, Mr. C. I owe you so much I can never repay. You were the kind of teacher I always wanted to be, and touched more lives than you will ever know. You were a truly great man, and the world is sorely diminished by your loss. there’s a big “Mr. C-sized” hole in the universe now

To the Chalmer family,So very sorry for your loss. You’re husband and father gave all of us a chance to follow our dreams, even if they were a bit out of the ordinary. His legacy lives on through his wife, his children, grand children and all the lives of the students he touched.
Mr. Gordon Chalmers will continue to be an inspiration and a great example as an educator and a human being. Gordon lived his life serving others. His legacy lives on through the many students he assisted over the years in reaching their dreams. He will be remembered and greatly missed by the Asawa SOTA community.
Mr. Chalmers was a beacon of hope, reminding us that we could do and be anything, with an enthusiasm and reassurance that you don’t often find in public education. Educators are the center of every child’s existence. We spend more time with them than our parents during our most formidable years. I think society forgets that children in school grow up to be adults. And that each interaction with a child can change that child’s life. The future generations of children would be blessed and beyond lucky to have an educator and person in their lives like Mr. Chalmers. A consummate educator who cared for all of us long after we left school. I consider myself lucky for that.
