Gopal Krishan Sarin's Obituary
Gopal Krishan Sarin 5 Nov 1934 – Feb 24 2019 Gopal (“Geeo”) Sarin passed away peacefully on the 24th of February 2019 in San Mateo, California. At his side were Sudha, his dedicated wife of 58 years, and his loving daughters Swati Bukshi and Saloni Howard-Sarin. Gopal was born in Qila Sobha Singh, Punjab to Barkat Ram Sarin and Krishnavanti as an Indian citizen; his family moved to Panipat during the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. His brothers Baldev Krishan Sarin (d), Brij Mohan Sarin, Jagdish Sarin, Satish Sarin and beloved sister Swaran Vohra (d) grew up India. A brilliant student, Gopal attended Refugee High School and became a Mining Engineer from Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad. He and his family lived and worked on a series of iron, coal, gold and diamond mining projects for many years as Gopal rose in responsibility, managing up to 10,000 workers at one time. After retiring from a distinguished career with National Mineral Development Corp. and Steel Authority of India, he eventually immigrated to the United States of America. Gopal was an adventurer who loved music, travel and fresh food. He was a Rotarian, and his love for education made him continue studies at University of San Francisco. Gopal’s intellectual discussions left an impact on most people who knew him. He is survived by Sudha, Swati and Saloni, as well as his sons-in-law Varun Bukshi and Stephen Howard-Sarin, and his grandchildren Anya, Veera and Brij. He dearly loved his nephews Alok and Atul Sarin. An open memorial service for Gopal will be held on Feb. 28, 2019 at 4:30pm at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club San Mateo, 701 Madera Drive, San Mateo, CA 94403.
