Gloria Virginia Olivi Sweatt
March 22, 1922 - May 26, 2020
Gloria was born on March 22, 1922, to Rinaldo and Aida Olivi, in San Francisco. She attended Saint Brigid Elementary School, Burlingame High School, and San Francisco Junior College where she received her Associates of Arts degree in 1940. Gloria graduated from Stanford University in 1944 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama. It was while attending Stanford that she met her future husband, Lt(jg) Robert Sweatt, USNR. They were married at Saint Brendan's Catholic Church in San Francisco on October 6, 1945. They eventually had three children: Jeff, Greg and Ginny. Gloria worked at NBC in San Francisco. But she was your classic 1950s wife and homemaker. As the years rolled on and her children grew she became involved in many other activities. She became the PTA President at Hayward Park School, Borel Junior High School, and Aragon High School. Gloria also was an active member of AAUW, Friends of the San Mateo Library, and danced with Seniors in Show Biz. She eventually served as a member of the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County Historical Association, as President of the Museum Auxiliary, as a member of their Education Committee, and as a docent at the History Museum. Gloria also served as a model for the Museum fashion shows and performed in their living history programs. She also worked at the family paper business.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Robert Caleb and son Robert Jeffrey (Wanda). She is survived by her son Gregory Sweatt (Mary), daughter Virginia Franzi, and grandchildren Kyle Franzi (Lisa), Tara Bachleder (Louis), Nathan Sweatt (Reina), Stephen Sweatt (Jessica), Jensi Sweatt,and four great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the San Mateo County Historical Association.
