Mrs. Batres was most definitely the shining light of Templeton street. I was first introduced to her over 40 years ago, and I still don’t know how she put up with all of us. The loud music from the garage, the parade of cars and all of the people sitting on her stairs and stoop. She could have put her foot down and sent us all on our way, yet she did the reverse and provided a safe place for us to congregate and socialize. She would always greet us a with a warm smile and a kind word. Never once did I hear her complain or utter a harsh word. Every time I traveled to the old neighborhood I would instinctively look towards her house, hoping to catch her warm smile or her always friendly wave. There were so many of us, unconceivable that she could remember us all, but every times he spoke with me I felt like family, and I am sure that I am not alone in that sentiment. George and Romeo, you are some of my oldest friends, and I am beyond saddened by your loss. With deepest condolences,
Kevin and Kaila
My dearest Gloria, sadly we laid you to rest today and it’s still killing me inside. You were the most beautiful, loving, accepting LADY/HUMAN I have ever known. The only peace I have is knowing you’re with your true love that left you 14 years ago along with my parents and grandfather (the poker crew). I will never forget how much love you gave to me and treated me like your own. I will forever cherish our decade long weekend parties that ended in poker games until 4 a.m. You would feed all of us and head to bed as we played the night away. There is so much more I want and could say but can’t do it through tears. I’m glad I was able to tell you on your last birthday how much you meant to me. You left an amazing legacy behind that will still carry your values, traditions but most importantly the love. They truly don’t make them like you anymore. RIP grandma Gloria you will forever be in my heart along with many others.
Such a sweet and lovely lady she will never be forgotten. Condolences for all the family. 🌹
“God looked around his garden
and found an empty space.
Then he looked down upon this earth
And saw your lovely face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best.“
