Gizella Megyesi's Obituary
Gizella Toth Megyesi, age 89, of Redwood City returned to her Creator on July 15, 2020.
Gizella was born September 8, 1930 in Szilvasvarad, a small village in Northeastern Hungary. She was the youngest of five children of Jozsef Orban and Gizella Cserniczki. She married George Toth in 1955 in Hungary, and in 1957, after the Hungarian revolution against Communist rule was crushed, they left the country as refugees, eventually immigrating to the United States to begin a new life. With hard work, they grounded themselves in Redwood City, with Gizella being a stay at home mother to their two children, Susanna and George. She was very proud to become a naturalized United States citizen in 1966. After her husband’s passing in 1988, Gizella found love again and married Charles Megyesi with whom she enjoyed 10 years together until his passing in 2002.
Gizella was very active in her church of 62 years, the Free Magyar Reformed Church of San Francisco and Vicinity. She worked passionately as a church elder, president of the women’s guild, and as a volunteer cook for the weekly luncheons, fundraising picnics and Hungarian festivals.
Gizella is survived by her daughter Susanna Licko, her son George Toth, her grandchildren Emma and Andrew Licko, her son-in-law Tim, her niece Katalin and Karl Fovenyessy and many nieces and nephews in Redwood City and Hungary.
