Giovanni Campo, 96, of San Mateo Ca, succumbed to cancer surrounded by his family on October 19, 2016.Giovanni is survived by his wife Maria Sardina Campo, son Paolo Campo and his wife Lydia, daughters Antonina Ricci and her husband Giuseppe & Palmina Mazza and her husband Roberto, grandchildren Giovanni and Mariella Campo, Davide and Michael Mazza, Roberto, Giancarlo and Laura Ricci, great grandchildren Giovanni and Paulina Campo, Jesenia Navarette, Isabella Ricci and Isaiah Morales. Giovanni was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.Giovanni was born January 9, 1920 on Marettimo Island, Italy. Growing up on an island he learned how to fish at the young age of 7. At the age of 8, he met a little girl who he would spend 88 years of his life with. On February 25, 1950 he married Maria, the little girl who was now his childhood love and soulmate. As an avid fisherman, he came home after being at sea with the Island’s first TV, refrigerator, washing machine, toys and many more paraphernalia that not only the family enjoyed but the entire Island got to enjoy as his home was always open to everyone. In February of 1969, he and his family moved to San Francisco, Ca. His family knew him as a mild mannered man who was known for his entertaining stories. He enjoyed listening to music, singing, dancing, playing cards and making the children laugh with his infamous “Napkin bunny”.
