Gina Sun Huang's Obituary
Gina Huang was born Shen Ji Yu on February 26, 1948, in Shanghai China, the first child of Shen Zhong Fu and Gu Xiu Ju. She grew up in Shanghai with her younger brother of 2 years, Scott (Shen Ji Fu). She enjoyed school and learning and was always an excellent student and a natural leader. In 1975, Gina was introduced to Mason Huang (Huang Mau Sun) by her schoolmate Betty Chen. In 1976, they married and two years later, had their first child, David. In 1978 they emigrated to the United States to start a new life. Both started working immediately in various jobs while learning English and Cantonese. A daughter, Lilyann was born in 1985. Always hard working and dedicated to providing the best possible life and future they could give to their children, Gina and Mason quickly rose up to secure better jobs to support the family. In April of 2000, Gina suffered a stroke and lost most of her functionality on the left side of her body. Never giving up, she persisted to rehabilitate and adjust to the many aspects of her life that had been upturned, yet never regained full function. In 2007, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Despite surgery, chemotherapy, and various treatments, the cancer remissed and relapsed 4 times within the last 9 years. Until the very last minute, she bravely and stubbornly fought the illness until finally surrendering to God. Gina Huang died peacefully in her sleep on November 20, 2016. She is survived by her husband, Mason Huang, children David and Lily, daughter-in-law Katia, son-in-law Nathan, grandchildren Eden and Avery, mother Joyce Leng, brother Scott, half-sister Sophie, as well as many dear friends and relatives.
