LtCol Gilbert C. Garlit's Obituary
In the early evening hours of November 24, 2021, surrounded by his devoted family, LtCol Gilbert Cabrera Garlit was lovingly welcomed home by his Lord and Savior. Gilbert “Gil” Garlit was born with his twin brother Wilbert “Wil” Garlit on Thursday, February 14, 1980 to Wilfredo Viernes and Pura Cabrera Garlit in Dagupan, Philippines. Three years later, Gil and Wil were joined by a third brother, Lawrence.
Life brought this happy family to the United States in 1989, and in 2007 Gil started his own family when he became husband to Rubylinda “Ruby” Elgo. Together, Gil and Ruby brought their own three beautiful sons into this world, Jaiden, Kevin, and Liam. His commitment and love for his family is profound and is shown during his life as husband, father, and mentor.
Gil’s love, loyalty, and dedication touched not just his family but also the country that he and his family call home. Gil enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1999 and shortly after earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and received his commission under the MECEP program in 2004. He pursued a very challenging and illustrious career, placing him in various positions such as Battalion Operations Officer, Company Commander, and Logistics Advisor for the KBZ Brigade to name a few. Without question, his actions and leadership proved his potential and promotion to LtCol.
Gil lived his life simply and it focused primarily on his family time. Gil enjoyed traveling, snorkeling, cycling, hiking, and video games. He loves the outdoors and would spend most of his time with family and friends camping or just out in the backyard having a bonfire.
Gil was preceded in death by his father Wilfredo Viernes Garlit.
Gil will be truly and deeply missed by all of his friends and family. Though his time on this earth was short, his impact was immense, and his legacy will not be forgotten. To those who have shared in the grief of losing Gil, we thank you.
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
