Gerard Sheeran's Obituary
Gerard Sheeran, age 80, died peacefully in his San Mateo home on July 5th, 2014.‘Gerry’ was born February 5th, 1934, the only son of Patrick and Mary Josephine Sheeran, in his native Ireland, Co. Limerick, where he spent his childhood. As a young man, he briefly immigrated to Toronto, Canada for work. From there, he frequently visited Boston, MA where he met his bride-to-be, Mary Doherty of Co. Donegal. They were married in Hawthorne, CA and had a son, Brian. Gerry soon took a job with United Airlines and in 1967, moved his family to the Bay Area and settled in San Mateo where he lived out the rest of his life.As an aircraft mechanic, he spent 30 years working at the United Maintenance Base in San Francisco, retiring in 1996. A master mechanic, he worked on the new 747 when it was first rolled out at SFO. As a younger man, soccer was his game, but golf became his passion. Not only did he play a great game, he made his own clubs with which to play. One of his proudest moments was giving San Francisco Hall-of-Famer quarterback, Joe Montana, a club he created himself.Gerry is survived by his wife, Mary Sheeran of San Mateo; his son Brian Sheeran and his wife Marci of South San Francisco; his sister Anne Gough of Co. Dublin, Ireland and his sister Carmel Flood of Andover Hants, England. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Mary.Services will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, CA on July 10, 2014 at 10:30AM.His son Brian said his father was very fond of his ‘Irish-isms’, and one of his favorites was “May you be in heaven a half-hour before the devil knows you are dead’. Gerry, you beat the devil.
