Two years gone. Miss you every day, still.
About a month before we lost him, doing his favorite thing: ham radio.
I think about you every second of every minute of every day and miss you so deeply my love. I hope you are having a wonderful time in Heaven as you deserve all the peace and spirituality that anyone could have. I LOVE YOU FOREVER. Your Beloved wife, Laurie
When our kids were little, they loved to visit “Unka Georgie” and roam freely through his multi-level house. Because it was sparsely carpeted we could hear their excited laughs and shrieks echo. And as they got revved up, George would say “Remember: first comes laughing, then comes crying!” - a truism that every parent knows.
And our sweaty breathless kids would (usually) pay heed to that and slow things down a little. Because they loved their Unka Georgie so much that they paid attention to him.
And that led to a family saying, whenever the playing started to escalate towards the red zone: “hey girls! What does Unka Georgie always say?” To which the response was a tittering chorus of “FIRSTCOMESLAUGHINGTHENCOMESCRYING!” and an at least temporary slowdown.
And it’s highly likely that they will say that to their own kids, if and when they arrive.
But in the meantime, those words take a different meaning. He sure made all of us laugh, so much, for so many years.
But now what?
Well, what did Unka Georgie always say?
Here he is in his happy place, his radio room.
That room has to be gutted and turned into a (staged) bedroom now, to make the house more marketable.
So that meant I had to disassemble and unscrew and disconnect all of the equipment and switches and complex cabling. And as I undid with my hands what he had put together with his hands over many years, both in building many of the actual items from kits as well as cabling them up for operation…I felt close to him as I deconstructed a huge piece of his existence.
And now, gone.
