I and my family have known Mr. Obata since I became friends with his son Ken in the 2nd Grade. As a kid I remember many times coming over to Ken’s house and playing with cars, playing catch in their driveway, and paying records on his McIntosh stereo with Ken. In particular, I remember one day when Ken and I were rocking out with some Led Zeppelin on the stereo, and Mr. Obata said to Ken and I, ââ?¬Å?Bang, Bang, Bang”. I did not understand what he was trying to tell us but then he said, Bang, bang, bang, you like that noise?! Of course, Ken and I could just roll our eyes (as teenagers do) while Mr. Obata said this with the wry smile he usually had when he had a humorous comment to make. My sister Jocelyn remembers Mr. Obata coming into her line many times at Safeway with a smile and some kind wordsMy mom, Fran and wife, Mary Ellen, enjoyed seeing Mr. and Mrs. Obata when we met for dinner with the Lanusses in Morgan Hill a few years ago. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Obata family.Jeff, Jocelyn, Fran and Mary Ellen Poirier##imported-begin##Jeff Poirier and Family (Jocelyn, Fran and Mary Ellen)##imported-end##
