Frank Deering's Obituary
Frank Deering, a devoted family man, proud Navy veteran, and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at the age of 95.
Frank honorably served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1953 during the Korean War. As an Electrician’s Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class aboard the USS McDermut (DD‑67), he earned the China Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, and United Nations Service Medal in recognition of his dedication and service.
Frank shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Janet Deering, with whom he shared many wonderful years until her passing in 2019. He is survived by his three children—Michael, Jim (and his wife, Michelle), and Pamela—as well as his grandson, Wolfgang Cressman.
Frank enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an electrical engineer with Varian. Outside of work, he was a proud and active member of the South San Francisco Elks Lodge, where he volunteered countless hours performing electrical work for the clubhouse and serving on the Thursday work crew. The friendships he made there became an extension of his family.
A man of many passions, Frank loved ocean and freshwater fishing, camping trips with his family, and tending to his garden in San Bruno. His motto—“If you can’t eat it, don’t grow it”—guided his gardening, and his artichokes famously lined the walkway to his front door.
Even in his 90s, Frank embraced life with enthusiasm. He traveled with his son to Washington, D.C., where he toured the war memorials and participated in an Honor Guard ceremony. He also fulfilled his dream of visiting Maui, where he swam in the ocean and enjoyed watching the hula dancers.
A funeral service will be held at SkyLawn Memorial Park, Crystal Springs Chapel, on May 29, 2026, from 12:00–2:00 PM, followed by a burial.
Address: 888 LifeMark Rd., Half Moon Bay
A Celebration of Life will follow at the South San Francisco Elks Club, with dinner beginning at 5:00 PM. Address: 920 Stonegate Dr., South San Francisco
Please RSVP for either or both events to Michelle at (707) 357‑1061.
