Frank Hsi-Jun Chang's Obituary
In Memory of Our Father —- Frank Hsi-Jun Chang Our beloved father Frank, His-Jun, Chang, was born on June 2nd, 1921 of the Chinese Moon calendar, in the town of Hsin-An County, Henan Province, China. He passed away September 28, 2009 at his residence in San Jose, California and now lives in Heaven with God. He has lived 89 years on earth. Our father was a graduate from the National Cheng-Chih University, majored in Political Science, relocated to Taiwan in 1947 worked as an officer at County Office of Yun-Lin County. He had worked diligently in Taiwan's Land and Farm Reform movement early on and moved to teach at National Chong-Hsing University as a full professor before he retired at the age of 70. Our father was a loving, warm and diligent person. He was kind and selfless to people around him and to the things he does. He has taught countless students over the years and awarded the Lifetime Educator Award by Taiwan Central Government. It was the height of his professional carrier. After retirement, he immigrated to USA and lived in numerous places in New York and San Jose to be near his children. Even though he retired, he lived and led a busy life raising his grand children. He was quiet and caring, hardly a lot of words but often the grandly warmth setting examples to the youth. All grand children were very close to him. Our father was born of a farmer's family, raised by a single mother when father passed away at a young age. During his childhood, he was a diligent learner and loved reading books. He was the first to be admitted to national university in the county. After graduation from college, in the middle of World-War II, he married Ms. Wen-Tsuey Kuo, a childhood friend through a family-arranged marriage. They were happily married for the entire 64 years. In the Civil War that followed, he and the young family moved from places to places and eventually left Mainland to arrive in Taiwan. Both lived as a union and worked hard through the early years. They loved each other dearly and raised together 5 children now spread in US and Taiwan. All his children graduated with college degrees, married and had their own children, leading satisfactory careers. Eldest son Shu-Ping, wife Mi-Mi Liu raising son You-Chou and daughter You-Fen. Shu-Ping and his wife both work at Ching-Yi University as administrator. Eldest daughter Shu-Jung, husband Wen-Chih Liu, son Chih-Chun and Chih-gang. Shu-Jung obtained MS in Chinese Language Art and has been employed with National Petroleum Corp. husband Wen-Chih holds a Ph.D. in Chinese Language Art. Both their children now graduated with advanced degrees and work in the field of green-energy. Second son Shu-Jen, wife Hsiao-Yu Wu with son Yung-Han who was raised by Grandpa since birth and through early childhood for many years and was very close to Grandpa. The family now lives in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania. Second daughter Shu-Ching, husband Jason Lu raising three children: son Charles McMorran, Jason Lu and daughter Ginger McMorran. The family lives now in Flushing, New York. Third daughter Shu-Ming, husband Raymond Chu raising three children: daughter Connie, son Michael and Ethan. All grand children lived close to Grandpa since birth and through school years, all have vivid pictures of grandpa waiting in the school yard and for the bell to ring, walking hand-in-hand, front and back, jumping up and down the road to and from school. These are the close grand children in grandpa's late years and had seen the grandly father figure and were given life worthy lessons that last for live. The word of our father: 'All my life, I live to love my children, educate them, protect them and help them grow. I live by principles that passed down as traditions: Be caring and kind and avoid wickedness; educate children with family value that lasts. My wife and I have 5 children and it has been the source of my life-long joy. They are all Christians and have led me to Christ too. The Book of Isaiah of the Old Testament, Charter 1, verse 16: 'Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong.'' Now our father was received by God. Not being able to see his presence again still makes us morn and sad. Children from Taiwan and cities of US all came to pay the last visit and see him off the road to Heaven. We have nothing to give and he needs nothing from us though we will remember him dearly and miss him dearly. May he rest in the lap of our Heavenly Father! Love, Shu-Ping, Shu-Jung, Shu-Jen, Shu-Ching and Shu-Ming.
