Federico Tamondong De Guzman's Obituary
Federico, affectionately known as Bening¸ was born on September 2, 1948, in Bayangbang, Pangasinan, Philippines, to Victoriano and Basilina De Guzman. He was the third youngest of 9 children. Around age 9, along with his parents and siblings, he immigrated to San Francisco, California in 1957, but before that, to Okinawa, Japan in 1953.
Federico went to Sacred Heart Grammar School, Everett Middle School, and graduated from Polytechnic High School before entering the workforce at SF’s famous Hippo’s Restaurant. Later, he joined his sister, Natividad, working at Kaiser Hospital and finally for the US Postal Service for 44 years. It was not long after retirement that he became an integral part of daily caregiving for his grandson, Benji, until he started pre-K.
He met Faye Guillermo in 1966, and they married in 1968. Soon after, they started a family with the birth of Antonio, then Felicia, Benjamin Apollo (born asleep in 1983), Gabriel, and Analicia, married to Chad Huck. He will be greatly missed, especially by his grandchildren: Richard, Veronica, Savina, and Benji and great-grandchildren: Blake, Ben, Abigail, Charlotte, Amirah, Vincent, and Leif. He is also survived by his siblings, Fermina and Eduardo.
He witnessed his last sunset on March 20, 2025, in Burlingame, California.
The De Guzman family wishes to convey their warmest gratitude for all your love, prayers, and tremendous support, especially as Faye continues her own health journey. We acknowledge the care and compassion provided by staff and physicians at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. A special thank you to those who traveled near and far to be together to celebrate Federico’s endearing life.
