Faith Taeko Burgess' Obituary
Faith Taeko Burgess May 2, 1943 - July 19, 2025
Faith Taeko Burgess (Nomura), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in San Carlos, California, on July 19, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on May 2, 1943, Faith was a proud graduate of Kaimuki High School. She went on to attend the University of Hawaii and later earned her teaching credential from San Francisco State University. With dedication and heart, she served as a Special Education teacher in the California Bay Area for over 30 years, enriching the lives of her students and colleagues alike.
Faith met her future husband, John, on the ski slopes of Sugar Bowl, California. Their friendship grew into love, and they married on April 22, 1972, in San Francisco. Together they built a life rooted in family, in San Carlos where they raised their three children: Christina, Johanna, and David. John preceded her in death in 2016.
Faith had a deep love for travel, culture, and food. She created lasting memories camping and fishing at Collins Lake with her grandchildren and looked forward to annual salmon fishing and crabbing trips in Garibaldi, Oregon. She was a spirited fan of the San Francisco 49ers, the Giants, and the Golden State Warriors. Faith also found joy in mystery novels and was a voracious reader throughout her life.
Faith’s commitment to her community was unwavering. She was actively involved in the PTA, Girl Scouts, San Carlos Community United Church of Christ, PAAM, and UCC Northern California Nevada Conference.
Faith is survived by her loving children: Christina & Matthew McMichael, Johanna & Joseph Hart, and David & Kimberly Burgess; her grandchildren: Gavin & Mia McMichael, James & Julia Hart, and Brianna & Isabelle Burgess; her brother, Andrew Nomura; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at San Carlos Community United Church of Christ, 1336A Arroyo Ave., San Carlos, CA 94070.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Faith’s name to the American Cancer Society.
