Esther ThompsonJune 11, 1919 – August 25, 2010 Esther Mae Schmiedel was born in Gibsonia, PA, on June 11, 1919. Losing her mother (Ethel Marie) at 10 years old, she grew up with her father (Carl William) and three brothers, Charles, Ralph and William “Roy”.She married Joseph Thompson, then in the US Navy, in 1945 in Florida, and moved to the San Francisco Bay area. Esther retired as a payroll clerk for Alameda County Flood Control after 20 years. A very loving wife and mother, she enjoyed socializing, celebrations, religious studies, crafting, sewing and needlework, cooking, baking and organizing. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, worked in the office at Christ Lutheran Church, volunteered at St. Rose Hospital, and was very active in many other areas throughout her life. After a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease, Esther passed away quietly on August 25, 2010. She now rests beside Joe in the Veterans’ section at the Skylawn Cemetary in San Mateo, California.
