Elva "Peggy" Swain's Obituary
Elva “Peggy” Swain, 98, of San Francisco, died on October 4th 2013. She was born in August 1915 in Natoma, Kansas where she lived until moving to California. She was the first of four children to parents Robert and Anna Powell. After graduating from Hayes High School in 1933, she began a career as a teacher and later a homemaker. In April 1935, she wed Fred Swain in Kansas, beginning a lifelong and loving union. She considered her 50th wedding anniversary and the birth of her children among her proudest milestones. In 1944 she became a Christian, joining Nazarene Church. Accepting Jesus Christ was one of the most important events in her life.She had a caring, social and loving spirit. She enjoyed listening to Christian songs and travelling all around. Game time with family and friends was a cherished activity.Elva is predeceased by her husband Fred, son Dwain, sister Anne and brother Harold.She is survived by her son Fred, daughter Kathy, brother Robert, her 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren.A visitation will be held on Thursday October 10 from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Services celebrating her life will be held on Friday October 11 at 11:00 am, at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo, CA.Flowers honoring Elva are welcomed, or donations can be made to the Hospice by the Bay.
