Elizabeth Evans' Obituary
"During the early morning of January 24, 2020, Elizabeth Evans peacefully passed. Baptized at an early age, she was 94 years young.
Born on October 9, 1925, in Clanton, Alabama, to the late LC White and the late Almeta White, Elizabeth grew up with nine siblings and a deep sense of family, an unwavering sense of faith and love in the Lord.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband for 72 years, Frank B. Evans of San Francisco, California and her sister Lillie White of Los Angeles, California, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and family and friends. She is now in the arms of the ancestors, including her father, LC; mother, Almeta; brothers, Pete, Lonnie, and Freeman; and sisters, Katie, Minnie, Teresa, and Rosa.
As the eldest girl, Elizabeth cared for and taught her younger siblings how to read and write. In high school she loved sport and payed basketball team. In 1947, at the age of 21, she met and married the love of her life Frank B. Evans. They traveled throughout the South and settled in San Francisco, California. Soon after her arrival in California, Elizabeth encouraged her younger siblings, as well as other family and friends, to move to California, and one by one they made the journey into Elizabeth’s open arms where she continued to nurture, encourage and support them. Always the dutiful daughter and sister, she would later care for her mom and sister until the day of their passing.
Elizabeth had an adventurous and fearless spirit and loved to travel, cook and care for her family and friends. She also loved gardening and created beautiful outdoor spaces at each of her homes. Her green thumb grew tomatoes, greens, figs, lemons and other editable fruits and vegetables. Her gardens also included many beautiful indoor and outdoor roses, rhododendrons, ficus trees, lilies and orchids. She was good soil and throughout her life her infectious laugh, positive outlook and open arms would be home to many. She will be greatly missed and how blessed are we to have her love grow in us.
A going home celebration from Elizabeth will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at the Lifemark Center at Skylawn Memorial Park, located at Highway 92 and Skyline Blvd, P.O. Box 5070, San Mateo, Ca. A Public funeral service begins at 12:30 PM followed by a public reception."
