Elizabeth Verges Delatorre's Obituary
Elizabeth Verges Delatorre was born in Paris France in 1919. She was a proud French national citizen who survived the Nazi occupation of France while secretly working for the French Underground supporting French National causes.She met John Delatorre Sr. in Karachi Pakistan in the late 1950’s under unique circumstances. Elizabeth & John were involved in a tragic car accident which left Elizabeth hospitalized with multiple injuries. John stayed by her bedside in the hospital every night and day until she recovered. After Elizabeth completed her recovery John Delatorre asked her for her hand in marriage.The two were married in Casablanca Spain in 1958. The new couple traveled extensively throughout Europe & the Middle East countries where John was responsible for designing & constructing many civil & government projects in multiple countries. John & Elizabeth moved to San Mateo in 1963 where the couple bought their first home.Elizabeth worked at the JJ Newberry department store in the Hillsdale Mall where she was a model employee who was often recognized as employee of the year by the company. Elizabeth was a faithful wife who always supported her husband and his extended family. After John Delatorre’s death in 1988 Elizabeth was very active in the San Mateo senior center. She also traveled around the world extensively with many of her senior friends and colleagues. Elizabeth also attended & supported Saint Timothy Catholic Church in San Mateo for over 50 years a church member.Elizabeth is survived by her two grandson’s David Delatorre who lives in La Jolla, California and Michael Delatorre who lives in Northern California. Elizabeth will be placed to rest next to her husband John Delatorre, Sr. in the military section at Skylawn Memorial Cemetery in San Mateo. A brief memorial service will be held at Skylawn Memorial Cemetery on Friday, April 11th at 1 PM. The ceremony is open to all friends and family who wish to attend.Services will be in her honor at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park, San Mateo, CA
