Elena De Jesus Escobar's Obituary
Elena "Mamanita" Escobar viuda de Castro passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in her home in Richmond, California.
Mamanita was the matriarch of her family. She lived a beautiful life and she always took the time to praise God for her many blessings.
She was born in El Canton Corozal, Suchitoto, El Salvador and married Juan Maria Castro when she was 15 years old. Together they had 6 children: Lucy, Orlando, Paula, Ramon, Isabel and Jose.
She became a widow at the young age of 40 and committed her life to her kids. In the early 80’s, when El Salvador was in the midst of a Civil War and her oldest son had tragically passed away she came to the United States where she was reunited with her family
For many years, she made a home in San Mateo, California. Over the years she not only raised her grandkids but she babysat countless others. Those who knew her, knew that she ran her house with an iron fist. She was strict but she was always inviting. Her house was the place many people called home as they immigrated to the US. She visited her siblings and family in El Salvador as often as she could. Most of her grandkids were lucky enough to make those trips with her.
Later, She moved to Richmond, California where she raised a second generation of grandkids and great-grandkids. During that time she also developed a fondness for sweet wine and enjoyed day trips to Napa with the family. She had the opportunity to see the world through traveling with her kids and grandkids. Mamanita loved a good party. She attended every birthday party and all of her grandkid's graduations, from preschool to college. Simply put, she was the pillar of this family and will be missed dearly.
She was deeply loved by her 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by:
Her siblings: Carmen Escobar, Leandro Escobar and Elvira Escobar and their families. Her children: Lucy Castro, Paula Castro, Juan Ramon Castro (Consuelo), Maria Isabel Castro and Jose Castro (Celina).
Her grandchildren: Juan Carlos (Maria), Lorry (Marvin), Jorge (Roxana), Leslie (Melissa), Juan Maria (Yolanda), Jamie, Maria (Daniel), Hugo, James (Lissette), Rosie, Crystal, Luis, Orion, Michael, Jose, Luis and Clarissa;
Her 19 great-grandchildren, her nieces, and nephews who all loved her.
In her death, she will be reunited with God, her husband, her son Orlando and her brothers Samuel and Victor.
