Eleanor Lois Crowder's Obituary
Eleanor Lois Crowder passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019 at the age of 89. Eleanor was born to Ludwig Heinrich Harms and Marie Rolfs in Oakland, California. Eleanor attended Fremont High School in Oakland and graduated in 1947. In 1948, she met and married the love of her life, George. They were happily married for 70 years. Together they raised three daughters. She is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Ronald), Yvonne, Lorraine (Samuel); two grandchildren, Sharon and Patrick; two great-grandchildren; various cousins, nieces, and nephews; sister, Marilyn. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle and loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Louis Crowder; her parents, Ludwig Heinrich (Louie) and Marie (Mary) Harms; and her brother, George William Harms. Eleanor had a love of performing arts, travel and animal rights throughout her life. She was also an aspiring and prolific author. After her graduation from Fremont High School, she joined a musical theater group where she met her future husband, George. Married in 1948, she dedicated her life to her three daughters and their many pets. She introduced her young daughters to many magical travel destinations such as Yosemite National Park, South Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios and Disneyland. Later in life, she traveled with her husband George, mother Mary and daughter Elaine to various European cities. She became an advocate for animal rights and enjoyed volunteering at the Peninsula Humane Society in San Mateo and Redwood Pet Hospital in Redwood City. Although Eleanor wrote many short stories and novels, her most popular novel was published in 2010 as Willow’s House. Eleanor continued performing at various San Francisco Bay Area Senior Centers well into her 80’s along with her husband, George. A funeral service is scheduled for January 25,2019, 1 PM at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, CA. A reception will follow at Red Lobster in San Bruno, CA. Rev.
