Elaine Ng Wong's Obituary
Elaine Ng Wong
December 6, 1936 – March 23, 2026
Elaine Ng Wong was born in Canton Province, China in 1936. Her family were well-established merchants involved in making patent medicines. After a tumultuous childhood — which included surviving both the Japanese occupation and the Communist Revolution — she married Steven Yam Wong, had a son Evan, and escaped to Hong Kong, later immigrating to America in the late 1960s.
She had two more children — Peggy and Stella — and welcomed other family members, whom she helped make their way to the United States. Elaine ran a successful daycare business, and the children she cared for at her home remembered her well into adulthood. A naturally gregarious person, she cultivated a large circle of devoted friends, including the ones whom she spent countless hours with at the mahjong table.
Elaine is survived by her three children Evan, Peggy, and Stella; her grandchildren, Colin, Alison, Eloise, and Grant; her great-grandson Ronan, and numerous siblings, cousins, and extended family. She leaves a legacy of family commitment and generosity.
