Edward C. Walneuski August 7, 1920 to January 26, 2014Celebrating the life of Edward Walneuski, age 93, who passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was a good natured man with a positive spirit, eagerness to learn, share and help others. Edward was born in Jeannette, PA. His parents emigrated from Poland and Austria. Edward was the youngest of twelve children and the first in his family to graduate from high school.Edward served during WWII in the US Army-Air Force as a Radio Operator in a C-47 and flew over Europe transporting the General, paratroopers and recovering wounded soldiers. In 1951 Edward met the love of his life, Enid June Helmstadter, at a YMCA dance while working at Wright-Patterson Airfield in Dayton, OH. They were married and moved to Lancaster, CA (Mojave Desert) where they raised two children and lived for 40 years. He was an Electronic Technician involved with flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base from the early days of the space race through the Space Shuttle flights.Edward retired in 1995 and moved to Los Osos, CA where they loved living on a hill overlooking Morro Bay for over 20 years. He was an avid Amateur Radio operator who built his own equipment and contacted HAMs in every country around the world. Edward is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Enid June; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie; daughter Katy; grandchildren Eric Walneuski and Kayla Covey; and brother- and sister-in-law Wally and Pat Helmstadter, who love him immensely and are grateful for the many inspirational and fun years they had together.Edward will be buried at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo CA, in a private ceremony.
