Edward "Roddy" Strother's Obituary
Edward Roddy Strother, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2020.
Edward Roddy Strother was born April 10, 1921 to parents Edward Perry Strother and Mamie Gordon Strother in Miami, Florida. He was the youngest of three children. He attended schools in Dade County, Florida until enlisting in the US Navy from 1943 to 1945. He then settled in California working at Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard from 1950 to 1986. He enjoyed swimming, fishing, and gardening, and loved his San Francisco 49er football team. Roddy was once a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in San Mateo, California. He was a kind-hearted person who offered help to anyone he saw in need.
Roddy was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mamie Strother, his two sisters Romayne Hardy and Fleda Cramer, and one grandson Kenneth Strother, Jr. Roddy is survived by his loving wife Carol Ann Strother, daughter Rodline Franklin, and son Edward Roddy Strother, Jr and his wife Betty, Kenny Strother and his wife Shirley, and Edward Adrian Strother. He also has four grandchildren, Alfreda, Denise, La’Tria, and Edward Strother III, as well as four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
