Edward M. Powell's Obituary
July 22, 1932 – June 14, 2015Edward Powell of Half Moon Bay died peacefully at his home on June 14, 2015 after a prolonged illness. He was 82.He was a longtime coastside resident and business owner. Edward was born in Hoxie, Ark. and moved to Half Moon Bay in 1941. As a boy, Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Half Moon Bay Dons, a precision drill team that traveled the country performing in parades and competitions. Edward was particularly proud of his military service. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, during which he traveled the world on the USS Boxer, an aircraft carrier. An avid musician, Ed’s singing and guitar playing was the high point of many family get togethers.Edward married Mary Ellen in 1955 and shortly thereafter moved to their residence on State Route 92, which they enjoyed together over the years. Edward was a master carpenter who ran his own general contracting business, Edward Powell, Inc., for over 30 years on the Peninsula.Edward was preceded in death by Mary Ellen, his loving wife of 52 years, and their first sonDanny. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Ibarra; children Mary Elizabeth, John and George (Lesley); and grandchildren Christopher (Heather), James, Robert, Thomas, Laird, Brandon and Courtney.Services will be held at 10 a.m., June 30th at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, 400 Church St., Half Moon Bay. Interment and reception will follow at Skylawn Memorial Park on State Route 92. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
