EDWARD DONALD BOEHMER
February 1, 1943 – December 26, 2023
On December 26, 2023, Edward Donald Boehmer passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 80.
Edward was born in San Francisco, California to Edward H. and Marian Boehmer. The family moved to San Mateo when he was 6. Edward graduated from San Mateo High School in 1960 and went on to attend UC Berkeley. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington.
Edward earned a teaching credential and taught science and biology classes at Fortuna High School in Humboldt County, California. He was a popular teacher, taking his classes on many field trip adventures to learn about the local ecology.
Edward left teaching to become a Laboratory Scientist in hospitals in both Humboldt and San Mateo Counties. In 1974, he joined Bay Area Air Quality Management District as an air pollution inspector. Edward had a long and productive career, retiring in 2008 as a Supervising Air Quality Inspector.
Edward had a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, and backpacking. Edward and his longtime companion, Vicki Dvorak enjoyed many trips to Florida to visit his daughter and her children, trips to the California desert, the northern California coast, Alaska, Hawaii and Arizona.
Edward is survived by his longtime love, Vicki Dvorak, his daughter, Melanie Boehmer, his grandchildren, Henry DeGreling, Charlotte DeGreling and Lucy DeGreling, and his cousin, Curt Klumann.
A private celebration of life will be held with Edward’s family and loved ones.
