Edmund P.S. Chen's Obituary
Edmund P. S. Chen, age 93, of Milpitas, California, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 8, 1932, in Shui Nan Township, Taishan, Guangdong, China, Edmund was the eldest son of Soon Kong Chin and Ngwe Yi Kyi. At just six years old, he undertook a perilous two-month journey by boat with his mother across open ocean to Myanmar in search of a better life. He later endured three decades of profound change and hardship; living through colonial rule, war, and political unrest, experiences that shaped his resilience and unwavering devotion to family.
On January 27, 1961, Edmund married his wife, Julia W. K. Ho. Together, they built a life rooted in affection, shared sacrafice, and unwavering partnership. Their 65 years of marriage were a testament to enduring love and commitment.
In 1968, Edmund again put his family first, moving together to Taiwan; where they lived for ten years before permanently settling down in the San Francisco Bay Area. Throughout his life, Edmund worked diligently in a number of roles, including teacher, electronics production line supervisor, chemist, and cook—always providing for his family with steady perseverance and pride.
Above all else, Edmund was a loving and devoted husband, a caring father, and a proud grandfather. He gave selflessly, loved deeply, and asked for little in return. His absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, who will forever cherish the memories.
Edmund is survived by his beloved wife, his sons, Joseph Chen and Gregory Chen; his daughters, Lih Tom and Mary Eagens; his grandsons, Nicolas Chen, Nathan Tom, and Ryan Tom; his granddaughters, Victoria Chen, Kara Eagens, and Jadalyn Eagens; his sons-in-law, Munson Tom and Glenn Eagens; his daughters-in-law, Linda Chen and Anna Sun; his brothers, Kin Fun Chin, Kim Hong Chen, and Alfred Chin; and his sister, Shu Lim; and many loving extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Kin Han Chin. We find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with them in Heaven, at peace after a life so fully given to others.
A service to celebrate and honor Edmund’s life will be held in the Pacific Chapel on 01/31/2026 at Skylawn Memorial Park from 12-2pm, followed by interment at the Eternity Gardens. Location is 888 Lifemark Rd, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019, (650)227-3142. Additionally, a thank you reception will be hosted from 3pm at Won Kok Restaurant, 1671 El Camino Real, Millrabe, CA 94030, (650)616-8288. Your presence will be deeply appreciated
