Duc De Duong's Obituary
In loving memory of our beloved father, Duc De Duong, a man of strength whose journey through life was marked by resilience.
Our father was born at the cusp of World War II in China, and he fled his home country to Vietnam in his teens where he met our mother, built a successful restaurant and a family together. During the turbulent times of the Chinese Vietnamese War, our father led the family back to China for safety. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained a pillar of strength, guiding us with determination, as we later embarked on a journey as part of the boat people to Hong Kong before finding refuge in the United States.
After settling in, our father focused on rebuilding his hometown of Xinwudi in Zhanjiang city, which included restoring the Ancestral Hall. Inspired by his challenging treks to a neighboring town for elementary school, he established a successful fundraising committee that ultimately built an elementary school in Xinwudi, ensuring education access for all children. Additionally, he provided financial support for some of his nephews to attend top universities in China. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact in his hometown community.
Our father’s peaceful passing came at the age of 96 at home. He leaves behind a legacy of 8 children and 18 grandchildren, each carrying a piece of his resilience. His love for cooking, herbal wine making, and chinese chess will forever be cherished. As we bid farewell to our beloved father, we hold onto the memories, the lessons, and the love that he shared with us. May he rest in peace.
