Dorothy Lucille Moore's Obituary
Dorothy “Dottie” Lucille Gallee Moore of San Francisco, CA passed away at the age of 83 on October 15, 2020. She was born in November of 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lewis and Gertrude Gallee.
Dottie was raised on a farm in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and had an insatiable thirst for adventure. In 1956, she married Leonard Vinci while attending Creighton University, and went on to live in Kwajalein and Hawaii as a Navy wife. In 1976, she married Patrick Moore, the love of her life. They loved sailing, travelling the world on cruises and across the country by RV, and being one with nature in Estes Park, CO or at their home in Woodside. As a devout Catholic, Dottie always found a church to attend regardless of the language or country.
Dottie was fiercely independent and put her whole heart into every aspect of life. She was a dedicated registered nurse in the critical care unit for the County of San Mateo, and volunteered with many community and emergency service organizations. Dottie was a life-long learner, incredible multi-tasker by painting her nails while driving, stock trader, lover of the opera, and artist.
Family meant everything to Dottie. Her passion was always to bring family together for holidays filled with love, sumptuous turkey dinners, giant Christmas trees, Christmas cookies from old family recipes, and well-hidden chocolate bunnies at Easter! Dottie also loved attending her children’s’ and grandchildren’s sporting events, performances and graduations, while ringing her signature cow-bell in excitement. She was an avid garage sale connoisseur and antique finder with her sister, Delores.
The past 8 years Dottie has enjoyed San Francisco and its beautiful views with her partner, Ernest Thayer, and her dog, Daisy.
Dottie’s passion, tenacity, wit, and gorgeous smile will remain in the hearts of many. She is survived by her children Noël (Joe) Milligan of San Carlos, CA, Michele Vinci of Twain Harte, CA, Leonard (Kimberly) Vinci of Lincoln, CA, sister Delores Sidener of Chico, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Dottie, also known as Gram, Gram Cracker, or Grams, is survived by her grandchildren: AJ, Holly, Trevor, Matthew, Rick, Austin, Ryan, Alec, and Carson. She is also survived by step-daughters Kathleen Moreland, Shari Jones and Laurel Hodges, and grandchildren: Devon, Hana, Tanner, Jessica, Russell, Cass, and Elliot.
Dottie joins her parents, husband Patrick Moore, sister Margaret Vencil, brother-in-law Donald Vencil, and Godson David Sidener, in heaven.
