Dorothy Jean Durant's Obituary
Dorothy Jean Durant of Half Moon Bay, California, went to be with the Lord on January 4th,
2021. She passed away at Brookside Skilled Nursing where she has been for the last 10 years.
She was born to Gardner Wilson and Nicey (Nancy) Battiest Wilson. She was the last of the Wilson’s 5 siblings.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys (Wilson) Lanphear, Brother, Walter Wilson, Brother, Emerson Wilson, and sister, Laura (Wilson) Taylor .
Growing up, Dorothy went to Wheelock Indian Boarding School. There, she became an avid basketball player.
She received a scholarship of music to go to college, but it was rescinded after 41 days. She decided to go with her sister, Gladys Lanphear, to California to as she said, “make my millions”. There Dorothy met and married Condy Henderson Bailey (Bill). They had two boys, William
(Billy)Thomas Bailey, and Robert (Bobby) Conde Bailey.
Dorothy was a proud member of the Oklahoma Choctaws, and a fluent speaker of the Choctaw language. She didn’t teach her boys the language because, as the story goes. . . she didn’t want her boys to know what she was saying when she would talk about them with her sisters in the dining room.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, William Bailey of Arizona, and Robert (Bobby) Bailey of California. Brother in Law, Roy Weeks Taylor; Nieces, Nancy Ellison of California, Korin Atwood of Oregon, Beverly Ann Harjo of Oklahoma; Nephews, David Lanphear of California, Roy Taylor Jr. of Minnesota, Emerson Wilson and Walter Leo Wilson of Oklahoma. Dorothy has 12Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild, and a whole host of relatives and friends.
Dorothy Loved her Lord and made sure her family knew of his love. She is hearing the words of our Lord saying to her, “Well done thou Good and Faithful Servant”.
