Don Hom's Obituary
Mr. Don Bing Hom (Yaya) passed away at his home on the morning of October 19, 2014 in Los Angeles with his elder son Yam Tong by his side.He is survived by his two sons Yam Tong and Yam Soon; younger sister Ann Yee; daughters-in-law Shelley and Amy; and grandchildren Henry and wife Hoi Yee, Bonnie, Jonathan, Sabrina and Elisha; as well as by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.He was born in Taishan, China in 1918. After immigrating to the United States in the 1950s, he lived and worked for most of his life in San Francisco and Los Angeles, paving the way for the rest of his family to join him. As a long-time manager of a popular local restaurant in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, he was well-known as Uncle Don(贊伯)or Uncle Yoon(潤叔), and was a beloved figure in the LA Chinese community.Yaya was a kindhearted and generous man. Nothing brought him greater joy than a good meal surrounded by family and friends. He possessed a remarkable resilience and love for life, and he always had a wide smile on his face. Words cannot express what a special man he was. He will be dearly missed.Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend the private funeral service in remembrance of Yaya’s life, which will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10am at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Mateo, CA.
