Dominique Baissou Neal's Obituary
Dominique "Dom" Baissou Neal was born in Daly City, California to Mr. Booker and Queen Neal on May 12, 1975.
For his early education he attended Morning Star and Star of the Sea elementary schools. He then went on to complete his high school education at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory School where he broke the track record for the 400 meters as a senior. With a dedication to serve his country, Dom proudly joined the Brigade of Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon graduating college, he was commissioned as an officer of the United States Marine Corps. He later obtained two master's degrees from Command and Staff College and the National Defense University.
Dom’s dedication to his country was evident in his 24 years of service in the United States Marine Corps. An infantry officer who rose to the rank of Colonel, he served with not just duty but with honor, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor medals. Having been deployed multiple times, Dom led all those he commanded with integrity and inspired those around him with his unwavering commitment to his fellow Marines. His comrades will remember him as a man who stood beside them in every trial and as a leader who cared as much about the person as he did the mission.
Dom was most proud of being a devoted husband to his wife of 16 years, Vanessa, and a loving father to his children, Charlotte and Christopher. He treasured every moment with his family, ensuring they knew of his love and loyalty, and always strived to be present and supportive. His children loved his exceptional taste in toys and Vanessa loved his knack for finding the best restaurants. He enjoyed the simplest moments of family time and always picked the best movies for movie night. His love for his family was simply immeasurable.
While his family and military service brought him fullfilment, his huge smile, joyful spirit and sense of adventure made him unforgettable. Always one who loved the outdoors, Dom had a passion for running, road biking, riding motorcycles, and collecting watches. His infectious enthusiasm was felt by everyone who knew him. Those closest to him knew him as a man with a sharp wit, a warm heart, and a fierce loyalty to those he held dear. His authenticity with others made him a treasured friend, while his resilience in the face of challenges was an inspiration to all.
We remember Dom as he would have wanted: a man of deep faith whose Catholic upbringing shaped his values and guided his life, a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud son and brother, a loyal friend, a Marine who honorably defended his country and someone with immense love for his family. His legacy of having a servant's heart will forever be etched in those who had the great privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Vanessa, his precious children, Charlotte and Christopher, his parents, Booker and Queen Neal, and a host of cousins. He is predeceased in death by his brother, Toussaint, maternal and paternal grandparents, and loved aunts and uncles.
Rest in peace, Dom. You fought the good fight, you finished the race, and you kept the faith. You will be deeply missed, but your spirit and memory will remain with us always. Semper Fidelis.
