Dollena Slade's Obituary
Dollena Slade (102) of San Francisco, California passed peaceful on May 25, 2024. She was born July 24, 1921 in Elberton, Georgia to Alice and Peter Gresham. Dollena married the love of her life, Leon Slade, in an intimate ceremony in Atlanta on October 10, 1940. When Leon was drafted, they headed west for a short stint in Los Angeles before eventually settling in San Francisco.
Dollena and Leon lived in Hunter's Point where they expanded their family and had two children, Barbara and Michael, before settling in the Ingleside neighborhood. During Dollena's early years, she worked at the Hunter's Point Shipyard before eventually becoming a nurse's assistant at French Hosptial (now Kaiser Geary Campus) for 38+ years.
She spent much of her retired life exploring the world with Leon. Everyone who crossed paths with Dollena knew she was fiercely independent, strong willed, and had a deep desire to live a vibrant life. Dollena was preceded in death by her husband Leon, daughter Barbara and granddaughter Toni. She is survived by her dedicated son, Michael, his wife Carol, her grandchildren Damani, Brandon, Breonna, and Michael, great-granddaughter Isoke, and many more great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on June 24, 2024 at Skylawn Funeral Home in San Mateo.
