Dipak Roy's Obituary
Dipak Roy, the Incense Guru of America, created a 60 year legacy for himself and his family in San Francisco. He was born on April 29, 1935 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the first child of Somen and Saila Rani Roy. He was raised in Kolkata, India, and moved to the United States in 1959 to pursue a PhD in horticulture in Salt Lake City, Utah. He soon found his way to California, initially working in horticulture in Hollister and then transitioned into a successful entrepreneur in San Francisco in the true American spirit. He employed and supported numerous immigrants and their families in starting a life in his new home. He also brought many of his siblings over from India and started his own family.
He was an honest, witty, and determined family man known for his off-the-wall humor. Dipak knew how to have fun. From family road trips, impromptu photoshoots, international travel, experimental gardening to trips to the casino. He loved to be entertained. For his latest endeavor in his mid-80s, Dipak taught himself to cook; this passion grew into making international fusion multi-course meals for his friends and family.
