Dionisio Marcelino Umagat's Obituary
Dionisio Marcelino Umagat was born in Camiling, Tarlac in the Philippines on December 6, 1933, and entered into rest on July 3, 2024. His parents were Tomas and Nieves and he had eleven siblings.
Dionisio was preceded in death by his wife, Evangelina, and is survived by his sister, Merlita, seven children, Herberto (Eva), Teresita (James), Hedeliza (Reynaldo), Dionisio Jr., Evangeline (Gary), Judy (William), Thomas (Cindy) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dionisio met the love of his life, Evangelina, at a young age; they were neighbors in Ususan, Taguig, Rizal, Philippines and were married on January 9, 1955. By 1973, they had seven children. He worked at Ovaltine PH in Ugong Norte, Quezon City, Philippines and immigrated to San Francisco in 1978 where he eventually worked at Muni San Francisco as a mechanic for decades until he retired in 2018.
Tatay Diony loved watching sports: football, baseball and basketball. He was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors. He loved to sing and his grandchildren cheered him on to sing during parties. We celebrated birthdays, holidays, anniversaries throughout the year at the house on Mission Street. Every year, we had group pictures taken at Christmas in front of the Christmas tree and that made him very happy.
It was always his dream to visit Europe. This dream was fulfilled in 2013. He visited St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Rome, the Colosseum, Notre Dame in Paris, the Louvre, Eiffel Tower.
Tatay did not forget his relatives when he came to the U.S. He was regularly sending support to them in the Philippines. He was a very generous person; always willing to help out.
Tatay lived a long life; a life well-lived. We will miss you, Tatay. You will always be in our hearts. WE LOVE YOU, TATAY!
