Diana May Lum's Obituary
Diana May Lum was born on February 20, 1927 in Canton, China. She was the youngest of 8 children. She grew up in China and then came to the United States as a young war bride at the age of 20 when she married her husband, Luey Shue Lum, on April 25, 1947. The following year Diana had her first child, Robert born on January 30, 1948, then Boni who was born on March 7, 1949, and finally Bill who was born on November 7, 1951. Having 3 children close in age kept Diana very busy, but she found time for several hobbies. She was very creative and talented. She taught herself how to sew, knit, and crochet quite well. Diana also had a passion for gardening and a wonderful “green thumb”. She grew Chinese vegetables, rose bushes, and many beautiful pots of yellow and pink orchids. Holidays were her favorite time of year. During Chinese New Year, she cooked a huge wok of jai and fried countless batches of sesame balls filled with black bean paste. For Christmas, Diana enjoyed giving family and friends large tins of Danish cookies for everyone to enjoy. After her husband, Luey, retired, she and he traveled to Hawaii, Washington, DC, New York, and China where they visited family numerous times. Diana was an elegant, graceful woman with a generous spirit. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, warm-hearted grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She is survived by her 3 children and spouses: Robert and Becky Lum, Boni and Ron Chan, and Bill Lum. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren and spouse: Alex Chan and Sabrina and Dareyn Stilwell, and one great-grandson, Sebastian Stilwell.
