David J Wu's Obituary
David Wu was born in Guangzhou, China, on August 6, 1940. In his youth, he attended the Affiliated High School of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
吴家松先生于1940年8月6日生于中国广州，年轻时就读广州美院附中，毕业于广州美院雕塑系。
Following his graduation, he joined the Guangzhou Municipal Gardens Bureau, where he contributed to the design and construction of numerous key large-scale public landscape projects across the city.
毕业后，加入广州市园林局并参与多项广州重点大型公共园林景观项目的设计与施工工作。
During his career in Guangzhou, his portfolio included prestigious municipal and luxury hotel landscapes, such as the White Swan Hotel, China Hotel, Garden Hotel, Dongfang Hotel, Yuexiu Park, and Guangzhou Cultural Park.
在广州工作期间参与的项目有广州白天鹅宾馆，广州中国大酒店，广州花园酒店，广州东方宾馆，广州越秀山公园，广州文化公园等等多项广州市政工程和高档酒店园林项目。
In 1984, he played a leading role in the design and finalization of the Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha) at Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island, which has since become one of Hong Kong’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

His masterpiece, the "Hometown Water" (Gu Xiang Shui) feature at the White Swan Hotel, became a cherished emotional touchstone for an entire generation. In 1985, his professional achievements were further recognized when he was invited to author the "Gardens and Rockeries" section for the Encyclopedia of China

In 1985, at the peak of his career, David immigrated to the United States for his family to begin a new life. However, his passion for garden design remained steadfast.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, he applied his unique perspective as a Chinese garden designer to create soulful spaces for clients who loved Eastern culture—weaving together winding stone steps, vibrant waterscapes, and lush greenery to reflect the eternal beauty of the traditional Chinese spirit.
在旧金山湾区，他以中国园林设计师的视角，为热爱东方文化的客户塑造富有韵味的空间——石阶蜿蜒、水景灵动、植物葱茏，与建筑相映成趣，折射中国传统精神的永恒之美。
These works did more than create spaces for enjoyment; they guided his clients to reconnect with Chinese culture.

Outside of work, David was a lover of the performing arts, remaining active in dance, song, and painting. He was a member of local Bay Area dance and choral groups, and in 2017, he held a solo vocal concert attended by over 300 guests—a resounding and perfect success.
工作之余，吴家松先生热爱表演艺术，活跃于跳舞、歌唱与绘画。他参与湾区舞蹈团和歌唱团，并于2017年举办独唱音乐会，300余位嘉宾出席，反响热烈，堪称完美成功。
Throughout his life, David was known for his helpful nature, his love for life, his professional dedication, and his deep devotion to his family.
吴家松先生一生乐于助人、热爱生活、专注工作、心系家人。
He passed away on December 31, 2025, leaving behind his wife, Susan; his son, Raymond; and his daughter, Cindy. His artistic soul remains eternally intertwined with the earth he so beautifully adorned.
2025年12月31日，他辞世，身后留下妻子何就意、儿子吴文闯和女儿吴硕毅。他的艺术之魂，与他亲手装点的大地永恒相伴。
