Obituary for David Chang San Mateo- David Chang, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 24th at the Holland House in San Mateo with his wife Angela Chang by his side.He was born in Shanghai, China on November 2, 1937 to Charles and Ok Sin Chang. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1963 and later became a lifelong resident in Foster City.David and Angela were married 52 years. He is survived by his wife Angela Chang, eldest daughter Caroline Chang and fiancé Kyle Weddle; youngest daughter Catherine Harmon and son-in-law Randy Harmon, 5 grandchildren (Kieran, Ella, Marissa, Serena and Brayden), his siblings Sue, Mary, Nancy, Alice and Tom and a number of other loving relatives. Many thanks to the entire family for their love and support that helped him lift his spirits.In his early years, after graduating from Soong-sil University in Korea, he joined the Army Reserves and was stationed in Paris, France. He further went on and received his accounting degree at University of San Francisco. He met his wife, Angela Kim, through a mutual friend of his parents from church and wrote letters to each other for a year. They met for the first time two weeks before they were married in Korea in March of 1967.David was an accountant for Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center for almost 20 years. His next venture along with Angela was a business owner operating a Hallmark Store in San Francisco for 15 years. They enjoyed participating in the Corporate Events held in Hawaii, one of their few vacations. Together they worked every day until they were able to retire in 2006.David had a passion for fishing and spent many hours enjoying the coast in Half Moon Bay. He and Angela enjoyed many meals at Barbara’s Fishtrap in Half Moon Bay along the harbor and watch the boats cast off and return ashore. He found the ocean to be peaceful and calming, one of his favorite places to visit. His other favorite place to visit was Coyote Point to watch the airplanes take off and land.He and Angela were members at the New Vision Church in Milpitas. They joined a group within the congregation and made great friends. They visited, prayed and gave him strength during the time he was in the nursing facilities. Although his physical abilities were declining, he was always so happy to see his friends and family. His smile lit up the room.
