Darlene Ching Galbreath's Obituary
Darlene Galbreath was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 17, 1950, and passed away at home in Los Gatos, California on October 8, 2024, aged 74.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, John Galbreath, her brother Dexter, and sister-in-law Barbara. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Lawrence and Betty Ching.
Education was a key focus of Darlene’s life. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Berkeley, a master’s degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, and a Teaching Credential from the College of Notre Dame, Belmont California. Darlene taught primary school education for 34 years, mostly in the Franklin McKinley School District in San Jose, before retiring in 2011.
Darlene was an avid traveler and remained a lifelong learner. With her husband John she visited many countries. Her last trip was to Morocco, Africa in 2023. Darlene had many other activities. She was a talented pottery artist, an excellent cook and a lover of sewing. One of her favorite pastimes was walking along the beach, in particular Rio del Mar, near Santa Cruz.
Darlene was a devout follower of Jesus, with a generous spirit, who regularly, throughout her life, participated in church attendance and bible study groups. She will be deeply missed by her extended family, and her many friends. The family is very grateful to all the medical staff at El Camino Hospital and Stanford Oncology Department for their care of Darlene, and for her dedicated caregivers at home.
