Cynthia Browne Funk's Obituary
Cynthia, one of 12 children, was born in San Miguel, Tarlac Province, in the Luzon region of the Philippines in 1936. Her family came to San Francisco on the SS Monterey in 1945 when the American troops liberated the Philippines. She was a long time resident of San Mateo. She died peacefully, surrounded by loving family members on August 9, 2025.
Dearly beloved wife to Frederick Funk who preceded her in death in 2014. They were married for 55 years! Devoted Mother of Frederick V. Funk, Lydia & Kurt Nordvik, Grace Funk, Arthur & Christina Funk, and Richard Funk. Cherished Grandmother to Kyle Nordvik, Kreg Nordvik, Jennifer Barnett, AJ Funk, and Brandon Funk. Great-Grandmother to Kamm, Kade, Aedan, and Dean.
Cynthia was a Registered Nurse with a long and fulfilling career both at UCSF medical center and San Francisco General Hospital before transitioning to Laurel Home Care in Palo Alto, CA where she was the Nursing Director until her retirement.
She then spent much of her free time playing piano, traveling the world, painting and sewing, watching musicals and Disney movies, reading, adding to her ever-growing jewelry collection, chasing after her Grandchildren, and playing the slot machines. She was a spiritual person and an ever faithful, devout Catholic. She also made the world's BEST and always in demand lumpia!
She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Auntie, and friend. She was an incredibly strong and caring person who loved her family deeply. Her devotion to her family and friends will be missed always.
