CW Roddy's Obituary
Clara Williams? Roddy, the 9th child and 5th daughter of the late Fred & Ola Williams, was born May 23rd, 1929 in Monroe, N.C. She passed away November 11th, 2012. Roddy, as she was known, graduated from Winchester Avenue High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh, N.C. for two years Pre Nursing, then attended Homer G. Phillips Nursing School in St. Louis, MO. for 6 months nursing training. She moved to Chicago, IL. and married her high school sweet heart Thomas H. Roddy. From this union one son, Darnell Antone Roddy was born. In 1967, she and her son moved to East Palo Alto, CA. where she lived until her death. Roddy was very active in the community. She served on several boards and commissions both locally and for the County. She was a staunch advocate for the young and the elderly. She served 4 years on the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Board as a Commissioner, 9 years as Commissioner on Aging, a member of the League of Women Voters, and as a Board Member for several local organizations and 20 plus years as a volunteer at the Media Center for the local TV Station. She and her son have received many awards for their stance against the violence and drug dealers in the community of East Palo Alto. Roddy leaves to mourn, her son Darnell A. Roddy of the home, two sisters Kathryn Rann & Marie Harris of East Palo Alto, one sister Annie Harrison of Nashville, N.C., one brother Fred D. Williams & wife Esteen of Newburgh, N.Y., as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.
