Clyde was born on March 18, 1922 in Palo Alto, California and peacefully passed away in his home on January 25, 2012 surrounded by his loved ones. He touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew him. Upon graduation from Sequoia High School in 1940, he entered the army in 1942 and served 3 ½ years in the European Theatre of Operation. He served in the Korean War for 2 years in the US Navy Seabees (attached to the First Marine Air Wing, Korea) and worked for the Department of Defense as a planner and estimator where he retired after 27 years. His wife, Sadie Hicks and granddaughter, Nancy Flavel, predeceased him. Clyde is survived by his daughter, Jackie Hicks Cerrato (Bob), six grandchildren: Roberta (Jim), John (Yvonne), Gina (Rich), Angela (Russ), and Vaughn (Sunny), eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and brother, Bill Lawrence (Ruth); plus, many nieces and nephews. In 1995, Clyde married his current wife, Mary O'Connell in Carmel. He embraced Mary's four children: Lynda O'Connell Jones (Jerry), Barbara O'Connell (Rick Eagleston), Dan O'Connell (Ellen), and Jody O'Connell, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Clyde was an active member of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. He loved serving as a deacon, greeter, usher, choir angel, member of the Count Team, men's Saturday morning Bible study and BSF. He was a member of the Menlo Park Kiwanis Club, Redwood City Elks Lodge and loved serving at St. Anthony's dining room. He was also a member of the Sequoia Hospital Auxiliary for 10 years, serving in many capacities. He will be remembered for his love of life, family, friends, and his faith. And, of course, his cookies. He was a kind, thoughtful, gentle man and was affectionately known as 'Mr. Nice Guy'. A memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on February 1, 2012 at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave, Menlo Park.
