Clement S.K. Ying's Obituary
Clement Shy Kuen Ying was born on the twenty-fourth day of the eight month, 1933. He was born in a stone boat located in his maternal grand parents’ home in Suzhou, China. He was the eldest of three sons. Clement was educated in China, first attending primary school in Dong Kou, the home village, and later attended boarding school. At 17 years of age, to escape the Chinese revolution, he was sent to Hong Kong with his Uncle and Aunt. In Hong Kong, Clement apprenticed in manufacturing of enamelware during the day and attended night school to learn English so he could further advance in his career. His career in enamelware would lead him to Nigeria in 1961, where he spent his entire career, rising from a production specialist to the role of executive Director in charge of 5 factories and a shipping company and finally branching out to start his own business. In his early 20’s, Clement met the love of his life, Jennifer Siu Poon Ha, and they were married in October 1960. Theirs was a life-long love that lasted through 53 years of marriage and their love for each other was evident to all who knew them. Their family of three children (Edward, Lily and Martin) and five grandchildren (Kenny, Christopher, Samantha, Austen and Daphne) were their greatest joy in life. While Clement enjoyed photography, music, travelling and fine dining, he was a family man at heart. His biggest gift was his caring and support that extended beyond his immediate family to taking care of his and Jennifer’s extended families and those of his colleagues and friends, when needed. After retiring to the Bay Area, Clement and Jennifer enjoyed their time together, travelling with their friends, watching their grandchildren grow up and enjoying a good meal with family and friends. We will miss his gentle smile and his invitation to join him for dim sum.The family sincerely thanks everyone for your support during this difficult time.
