Claudia Rose Packman's Obituary
Claudia Rose Packman passed away on August 20, 2022. She was 75 years old. She said family was what was most important to her and she peacefully entered eternity surrounded by her family at her beloved home of more than 50 years in San Mateo, CA.
Born at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, Claudia lived in San Mateo County her entire life, having been raised by her parents in Daly City California. She completed high school at the Immaculate Conception Academy in San Francisco in 1964 and earned her Associate of Arts from the City College of San Francisco. There she studied Medical Assisting and while there she received a merit-based scholarship for academic achievement. Before retiring, she worked for many years in the same office with her sister Eunice as a medical biller at UCSF.
She was an active member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in San Mateo, where she taught CCD on Saturday mornings. She also led religious education for children during the Sunday Family Mass. She especially loved to talk about the Beatitudes, her favorite teaching of Jesus.
Outside of church, though, she lived her faith rather than preach it. She loved a party and her quick wit meant you couldn’t be with her, even on her last day, without laughing and smiling. She especially loved her family and was always there to help them without judgement no matter what. m her friends and neighbors for her welcoming nature and her generosity with her time and spirit.
Claudia was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years Brent, who passed away last year, as well as her parents Stanley and Florence and her sister Eunice. She is survived by her sons Jason (Noriko) of Sagamihara, Japan and Kevin (Anna) of San Mateo, CA, as well as her brother Vernon, her niece Gala and nephews Michael and Kirk. She will be missed by them as well as numerous friends and family members around the world.
We remember, however, that Claudia did not want an overly somber tone at this time – in fact, she often said she wanted us to have a party – and she especially did not want people wearing all black to her funeral to mourn her passing. Instead, she wished us to celebrate her life.
So, all are welcome to attend her funeral mass which will be held at 11 am on Friday September 2 at St. Timothy’s Church in San Mateo, followed by her inurnment at Skylawn Memorial Park at 1 pm. A celebration of her life will be held at a family home in the afternoon following the inurnment.
Those who wish to send flowers should have them delivered to St. Timothy’s after 8:30 am on the day of the mass. Donations in her name may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
