Claire N. Whitney's Obituary
Claire Whitney died peacefully in his home on January 14, 2017 in Redwood City, Ca at the age of 90.Claire was born on November, 12, 1926 in Lamont, Iowa to his parents, Orville and Ruth Whitney, where he grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Lamont High School and, after turning 18, he joined the service. He served in the US Navy (Seaman 1st class) during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Avery Island (AG76). Claire left the service in 1947, moving to Los Angeles, California. There he met and eventually married the love of his life, Agnes (Bates) in 1947. The Whitneys later settled in Redwood City, Ca., where they raised their 2 sons, Larry and Michael Whitney. Mr. Whitney led a fulfilling career in manufacturing, working at Schlage Lock, William Wallace and Safety Pacific. Claire was an avid outdoor enthusiast, with a love for water skiing, hunting and fishing. Once retired, Claire found a great passion for Metal Arts.Claire is survived by his wife, Agnes, his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Cathy (Barton) Whitney of La Honda, Ca; his granddaughter and her husband, Mary (Whitney) and James Goulart; and his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Goulart. He is preceded in death by his sons, Norman and Michael Whitney.Claire will be honored in a graveside service at Skylawn Memorial Park, open to all, on January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with participants gathering in front of the mortuary building at 10:45. A reception will immediately follow at his home in Redwood City, Ca.
