Christina E. Stallings' Obituary
Our beloved mother, mom-mom, and sister Christina Eyimofe Stallings, aged 83, of Belmont Heights, California passed on to glory at home in San Francisco on March 27th 2013. She was born on December 22nd, 1929 in Kaduna, Nigeria to Mr. & Mrs. James Ekeru Tugele of Edjeba, Delta State, Nigeria. She attended Hope Waddell boarding school in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria and later studied Fashion Merchandising in London. She married the love of her life, Herman D. Stallings, a civil rights lawyer from Detroit, Michi- gan, on November 26th 1962, but was widowed after only five loving years with him. In the late 1950's, She worked for BOAC (now British Airways) and was famed as the first black flight attendant. The opportunity exposed her to different countries and cultures where she rubbed shoulders with Heads of States, Ambassadors and other dignitaries. Her beauty and poise made her a perfect candidate as a broadcaster for Nigeria's first T.V. station, NBC (Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation) now NTA; where she had the privilege to interview Mohammed Ali, but she opted to be behind the scenes and worked as Traffic Manager, scheduling TV program- ming. Her true passion was fashion design and in 1972 she opened Delia's Boutique at Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. In 1982 she opened a second boutique in Mountain View, California. She remained in retail sales during her retired years and owned Calabash Enter- prises. She enjoyed meeting people who became faithful customers and friends. Family and Friends remember her for her big heart, loving kindness, awesome cooking and most of all her infectious laughter that echoed in our hearts and minds for days and now, for eternity. She is survived by her Children, Tosan Rewane, Omatsola Rewane, Nene Amachree-Piltoff, Douglas Eyimofe Stallings, Delia Eyitemi Stallings and six Grandchildren – Foluwa, Eyitene, Karis, Preston, Eyisan and Arese. She is also survived by her siblings – her brother Ivan and sister Beatrice in Nigeria, and sister Comfort in London. May her God-blessed soul rest in perfect peace and her laughter sound forever!
