Choi Yuk Ma Lee's Obituary
Choi Yuk Ma Lee, 92, of San Francisco, California, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco. Born in Taishan, China, Choi’s journey was one of courage, devotion, and sacrifice. She first immigrated to Hong Kong and, in 1966, moved to San Francisco with her young daughter, Mei Kim, to reunite with her husband, Shew Jing Lee. Together they built a home rooted in love, resilience, and family. In San Francisco, they welcomed two more children—a daughter, Nancy, and a son, James. Choi devoted her early years to raising her children as a full-time homemaker. When her children reached elementary school age, she began working as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn, where she remained for 15 years. Even while working full time, she never wavered in her care for her family—each morning ensuring her children awoke to breakfast prepared with love. After retiring,
Choi and her husband dedicated themselves to helping raise their grandchildren. They were not only caregivers, but also teachers, steady guides, and the heart of daily family life—providing daycare, preschool, after-school care, and lovingly prepared dinners. Though their children eventually moved out of the family home, they returned every day, drawn by the warmth and constancy Choi and Shew created. Choi was a devoted wife, a loving and selfless mother, and a doting grandmother. She took great pride in her family and cherished her grandchildren: Ashley Louie (Anthony Sung) Amanda Louie (Yong Ding Sun), Bryan Lee, Aaron Louie, and Nicole Lee. She is survived by her three children—Mei Kim Carol Lee, Nancy Louie (Daniel Louie), and James Lee (Karen Lau)—and her younger brother, Harold Mah. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the quiet strength she modeled every day.
A funeral service honoring the life of Choi Yuk Ma Lee will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Skylawn Memorial Park, 888 Lifemark Road, Half Moon Bay, California, 94019. A reception will follow at 1:00 p.m. after the burial service.
