Chin Shin Lin's Obituary
Chin Shin “Charles” Lin passed suddenly at age 84 on March 19, 2019. A man of great intelligence with strong convictions, his focus in life has always been his family. Born in Taiwan during the Japanese occupation as the second oldest son and losing his father at a young age, he spent much of his teenage years and young adulthood working to help support his large family while going to school. Despite these challenges, he was able to gain entrance to the prestigious National Taiwan University and earned a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Hawaii for a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. In 1962, he married Mei Hui Kao, a classmate of his younger sister, Shiang Ching. They had three children, Yu Lin, Cheng Pin and Cheng Hao Seeking better opportunities for his young family, he immigrated to the US ahead of his family. He worked for Lederle Laboratories in the pharmaceutical fermentation department in Pearl River, New York. His family joined him in New York three years later. After working at Lederle Laboratories for over 25 years, he moved in 1993 to join his younger siblings in Southern California where he managed the family hotels, until he finally retired to Fremont, CA, in 2000. He enjoyed his remaining years with his wife, their children and grandchildren, traveling the world and watching the New York Yankees and the Golden State Warriors capture multiple championships. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mei Hui “Amy”; his daughter, Yu Lin “Linda”, her husband, Greg, and their two sons, Nicholas and Jason; his son, Cheng Pin “Peter,” and his wife, Maritza; and his son, Cheng Hao “Howard”, his wife, Steasi, and their children, Maryssa, Matthew and Alexandra. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, for championing the fight against the cause of his untimely passing. The Cremation ceremony will be held with the immediate family only. The Memorial and Inurnment ceremony will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park on April 4, 2019.
