Chih Li Hsia's Obituary
Dr. Chih-li Chan Hsia grew up in a turbulent time in Chinese. Her birth was registered at Taiwan as April 27, 1925 born in Beijing China. Her father was a professor at the university at Harbin of North East of China which influence a lot on her early life. She was able to receive her teaching credential, taught in school and brought home needed salary and food ration which were much treasured in the war-torn China. Later, she decided to follow her father’s wish for her to study medicine. Her good academics allowed her to enter and graduate from Medical School of Beijing University. After graduation and internship, she brought her siblings and her mother to Taiwan to escaped communist persecution.
Dr. Chen met Pong Chen Hsia in Taiwan. They were married in 1949 and together raised 3 Children – John (1950), Jessie (1951) and David (1957). She served as Internal Medicine doctor before immigrated to U.S. in 1975 and settled in San Francisco Bay Area CA.
Her whole family were devoted Catholic and went to Mass on Sunday regularly while they lived in Taiwan. Despite many challenges, she held fast to her faith. She actively serviced in church ministries in the 1st Home of Christ when it started in Burlingame, CA. She earned Master Degree in Divinity at age 70 from Christian Witness Theological Seminary (基督工人神学院 ) Berkeley campus then served as Sunday school principle and elderly fellowship at 4th Home of Christ in Cupertino/Saratoga until she retired at age 85. After Joseph passed away, she lived among homes of three beloved sons and daughter until the time on Dec 22, 2019 at age 94 with all children surround her.
