Mr. Chester Banks' Obituary
Chester H. Banks (Chet) was born to his parents, L.C. Banks and Lucy Smith on April 21, 1956 in Louisiana.
Chet and his siblings, Russell, Mittie Sandra and Lon grew up in San Francisco, CA. He attended All Hallows Catholic School until grade 8 before moving on to Sacred Heart Catholic High School from which he graduated in 1974. In 1975, Chet joined the U.S. Army where he served as a Military Police Officer until he was honorably discharged in1980.
In 1976, Chet married Pamela Franklin. The couple had one child, Tracee Ann Banks.
Chet continued his dedication to law and order when he joined the San Francisco Police Department in 1981. He served as an officer of the law for over 15 years. Chet retired from the force in 1996. In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering at schools where his grandchildren, Tyus, Donovan and Caycee were students. Though he volunteered primarily to be close to his grandchildren, he took the opportunity to assist with the mentoring of other children; some of whom returned over the years to thank him for teaching them the valuable lessons they needed to succeed in their own lives.
Though a very reserved person who relished his privacy and seclusion, Chet enjoyed and loved his family very much. He was often more excited than the children at Christmas time and he rarely missed a family gathering. He met and befriended people with ease and, no matter where he resided, he was the neighborhood “favorite”.
Chet is preceded in death by his father, L.C. Banks. He is survived by his mother, Lucy Smith, siblings Russell, Mittie, Sandra and Lon, daughter Tracee, grandchildren Tyus, Donovan and Caycee, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and a host of close relatives, friends and neighbors.
He will be missed until we meet him again.
